State of the Union Congressman Jason Crow of Colorado’s 6th district will be accompanied by a hero of the Colorado Springs community at President Biden’s second State of the Union Address. Richard M. Fierro, an army veteran and two-time Bronze Star recipient, will join Crow as his guest to the event.
Fierro is being recognized for his bravery and quick action on the night of the Club Q shooting, where he helped disarm the suspect and save lives. Despite being at the club with his wife, daughter, and friends to watch a drag show, Fierro’s instincts forged during his combat deployments instantly kicked in. He protected his loved ones and helped prevent further tragedy.

The statement from Crow’s office offers condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the attack, and the Congressman continues to call for a nationwide assault weapons ban. This includes additional measures to help save lives and prevent dangerous weapons from falling into the wrong hands.
Fierro’s presence at the State of the Union highlights the importance of recognizing and honoring heroes in our communities, and the need for continued efforts to prevent gun violence. It is a powerful reminder that we must do everything in our power to ensure the safety and security of all Americans.
